Defender Greig Henslee and skipper Michael Angus won the major honours at Brisbane Strikers team awards presentation at Perry Park on Friday night.

Henslee, earned dual accolades as Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Season, while Angus was voted Player of the Year by club coaching staff.

It was the second time in six seasons that Angus, who made an equal club best 23 PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland appearances in 2015, has been honoured as Player of the Year by the club.

32-year-old centre-half Henslee also proved formidable in his first season with the club - anchoring Strikers’ defence in 22 PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland appearances in addition to contributing three goals.

“It’s definitely something I wasn’t expecting,” Henslee said of his two award haul.

“With such a great group of guys, to be voted the players’ player of the year and supporters’ player – yeah, it’s good.”

Henslee said the club’s achievements this year, including a maiden PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Grand Final appearance and second consecutive Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 appearance, have laid a foundation for the 2016 campaign.

“I think it’s important that we use this season more as a lesson than anything, because at the end of the day we were bridesmaids,” Henslee explained.

He added, ““We are talking about fine margins. But I think it’s important that next season we take those fine margins and we turn them into our favour.”

Also acknowledged was 18-year-old goalkeeper Michael Weier, who delivered a series of stunning performances following the departure of first-choice goalkeeper Michael Turnbull early in the season.

Weier received the Player of the Future Award after recording four clean sheets in just seven senior appearances.

Star attacker Jheison Macauce, whose season was ended prematurely by a knee injury in Townsville against Northern Fury, was acknowledged as the senior men’s Golden Boot - delivering 14 goals in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland competition in just 17 appearances.
