SPECTRES SCORE EMERGING STAR ANNELI MALEY
NUNAWADING BASKETBALL is thrilled to announce that one of Basketball Australia’s brightest young stars, Anneli Maley will be joining the Nunawading Spectres for the 2016 South East Australian Basketball League season.
Maley (17), joins the Spectres following two years with Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence based at the Australian Institute of Sport, where she posted 8.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game across 12 appearances in 2015.
Despite still being a teenager, Maley boasts incredible experience having represented Australia at both the FIBA U17 (2014) and FIBA U19 (2015) World Championships, teaming up with Nunawading Basketball Representative Alanna Smith earlier this year to win Bronze. At U17 level, Maley paired with current Spectres SEABL player, Georgia Pineau. Amazingly, Maley will still be young enough to qualify for the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championships rounding out an impressive Junior Representative career.
“I cannot express how exciting it is for Nunawading Basketball to have an emerging star like Anneli committed to our program in 2016,” Nunawading Basketball Operations Manager Paul Flynn said. “Anneli is an obvious young talent, with big things ahead in her basketball career. But even more importantly, she is a wonderful person that will bring so many positive values to our Spectres team and the Nunawading Basketball community.”
Maley will re-locate home to Melbourne at the completion of her scholarship period with Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence later this year. She now joins former Vic Metro team mates, Georgia Pineau and Brittany Wunhym as the Nunawading Spectres SEABL Women’s signee’s for 2016, with more exciting announcements expected to be made soon.
