North Shore held their end of season Presentation Night at Norths Leagues Club last Friday. It was a season of highs and lows that was being reflected upon; the highlight being the Under 19s taking out the Premiership.
In the Premier Division Best and Fairest count, Jimmy McKenzie got his season off to a flying start and led early; but was gradually caught by Teddy Strudwick. It was a challenging season for our Premier Division team, with Damian Whittle taking the reins from Gareth Lawson as coach mid-season. Although the results didn’t go our way, the team kept putting in their best effort every week.
The Reserves narrowly missed the finals but had a solid season, with Jarryd Watters taking out the Best and Fairest for that division. Addison Hunter was adjudged Best and Fairest for the Thirds, who started and finished the season well but a mid-season slump cost them a place in the finals.
The Under 19s was the big success story, taking out the Premiership. Sudket Fraser-Krause took out the Best and Fairest for the Under 19s. It’s been a four-year program that has led to their success, going from a squad of 16 four years ago to the powerhouse of today. So strong has been the growth in numbers at Under 19s level that we’re looking to field a second Under 19s team in 2016.
2015 has been a challenging year for our club, but the mood is upbeat and we’re expecting to rise up the ladder next season. New senior coach Ryan Meldrum has hit the ground running with preparations for preseason and 2016. We have new sponsors on board, along with some work programmed to improve our facilities at Gore Hill Oval; combine this with some quality recruits and North Shore will be the place to be. Stay tuned for some exciting announcements in the coming weeks.
