Teenager Lareena Meiklejohn scooped two top women’s awards while April Albury nabbed Players’ Player at Western Pride’s end-of-season presentation on Friday night.

Pride notched six victories throughout the season with Meiklejohn proving to be a crucial contributor despite still being 17.

The Ipswich local was rewarded with Player of the Year and Best and Fairest for her efforts, but insists improvement is still a key goal.

“It’s an achievement that I will cherish forever, I’m stoked to be presented with the awards,” Meiklejohn said.

“This was my third year at the club and I am committed to the club and the team.

“I’m always willing to build on my performance. There is a long way to go and I'm willing to do anything to improve my skills and my performance.”

After joining from Ipswich Knights, Albury racked up regular appearances for Pride to win acknowledgement as Players’ Player.

The 23-year-old said the extra responsibility required of her as a leader inspired her season.

“It’s an honour to win any award let alone an award that is decided on by your teammates,” the defender said.

“They are the most important people to you during the season so to be voted as players player by them is awesome.

“I was one of the captains this season and I took that pretty seriously and I think my teammates appreciated that.”
