This weekend’s match will be the third Grand Final appearance in as many years for the Grovedale based powerhouse of the local Women’s competition, who defeated Kardinia College 2-1 in last year’s season decider at Grovedale Reserve.
A year earlier, however, Barwon had its colours lowered in the 2013 Grand Final when it lost 1-2 to the Deakin Ducks at Myers Reserve.
The Waves, on the other hand, will be making their first appearance in the Women’s Division Grand Final since 2012.
Lara Williams, who was the previous season’s League Golden Boot, was the lone scorer for the Waves who lost 1-2 to Surf Coast following extra time at Banyul Warri Reserve.
Both of Barwon’s goalscorers against Kardinia last year, Emma Rea and Drina Marincic, are expected to take their place in the reigning Premier’s starting line-up on Saturday.
The Grovedale outfit will head into the encounter with the Surfside Waves hot favourites, having won one and drawing the other league clash between the two combatants, so far this year.
Way back in Round 9 action at Shell Road Reserve in Ocean Grove, Barwon ran out 2-1 winners over the home side, with Marincic and Marnie Harrington scoring for the Blue and Whites while Cath Sattler scored Surfside’s goal.
In the Round 18 clash at Grovedale Reserve, just two weeks’ ago, both sides fought out a tough 0-0 draw.
The 2015 GRFC Women’s Division Grand Final will be held on Pitch 1 at Stead Park on Saturday, with kick off scheduled for 12:30pm.
