Essendon has continued its successful finals run with a convincing 66-point win over Footscray today.
The Bombers bundled the reigning premiers out in straight sets, dominating the game after quarter time.
Kicking with the breeze in the first term, Essendon led by seven points, but raced away in the second term kicking eight of the next nine goals to race to a 50-point lead. Aaron heppell was a rock in defence with Anthony Tipungwuti, while Kyle Hardingham and Shaun McKernan showed their experience to help the Bombers their their first preliminary final since 2005 when aligned with Bendigo.
It sets up a preliminary final clash with Williamstown on Sunday September 20 at 2:40pm.
In the Development League, Williamstown has set up its annual Grand Final clash with Box Hill Hawks, accounting for Coburg by 40 points. The Seagulls jumped away in the second term, ut just 19 points separated the sides at three quarter time before the Seagulls finished strongly.
The Development League Grand Final will be played next Saturday at North Port Oval.
