BACON’S CONSISTENCY REWARDED
Trent Bacon has been one of the unsung heroes of the Rochester Football Club
The 20-year-old from Lockington-Bamawm is the last of the Goulburn Valley League’s nominees for this year’s rising star award.
He made his way to the Tigers through a friendship with Steven Stroobants and premiership coach Daniel Schmidt.
Bacon played with Stroobants in the VFL at the Bendigo Gold last year.
Prior to that, he spent a year with TAC Cup club the Bendigo Pioneers.
During that period, his home club was LBU where he enjoyed premiership success in 2013-14.
He believes that could hold him in good stead as the Tigers take on Benalla in the qualifying final today.
“I know that playing a GV final is a big step up than a regular home and away game, but having had that experience of the last two years it will help me, especially in the first 10 minutes when it is really hot in the kitchen,” Bacon said.
Bacon says an even team effort has helped the team claim the minor premiership.
“Everyone knows and plays their role while everyone that plays is very committed to the course,” he said.
“One other thing we have done is play for each other.”
The running backman says the match-up with Kyabram was the perfect way to tune up for the finals.
“It was probably the most intense game of the year we’ve had and it was a really good hit-out to have going into the first week of the finals,” he said.
“It was a very good team performance to finish off the season with.”
