Well here we are at the pointy end of the season. It is useful to reflect on the season so far.
In finals this weekend we have 11 of the 12 Clubs involved in at least one grade. Whilst the competition saw the number of wins in the seniors range from 16 to 1 there were promising signs for those Clubs that did not make top 6, which I think augurs well for the future.
Minor premiers Rochester have lifted themselves from 5th last year and Benalla remain in the top 2 – the Qualifying final at Mooroopna should be a cracker.
Kyabram have held third from last year and whilst Swans have dropped from 2nd to 4th they remain strong contenders.
Rounding out the six are Seymour in 5th (last year 10th) and Euroa get in after finishing eighth in 2014.
Outside of the six Mooroopna were 7th with a reasonable percentage and having lost some close ones against sides above them.
Mansfield have lifted from the wooden spoon to 8th , going from 3 wins to 8 , while Shepparton continue to rebuild .
While United had a challenging year they defeated Benalla in Round 7 and drew with Euroa the following week . Echuca , whilst finishing 11th defeated Euroa in Round 4.
Rounding out the competition was Tatura , with a win in Round 18 – having seen them a couple of times during the year , they certainly competed every time and there are some really positive signs for the Bulldogs going forward .
In this competition things do not stand still and clubs are continually looking at how they can get better for next season . With the advent of the points system next year and the salary cap the year after , we should continue to see real competitive football.
This weekend we see the Qualifying final at Mooroopna and Elimination Finals at Benalla and Echuca.
The draw was made a little tricky due to unavailability of several grounds but I am sure we will see some great contests
I wish all Clubs the best this week in coming weeks should they advance to the next round
