SURFSIDE Waves will be looking to make it four wins from four attempts – and a subsequent spot in next week’s Grand Final - when they meet Barwon SC in the ‘second versus third’ Men’s Division One semi final this weekend.

The Waves hold a commanding 3-0 record over Barwon, but the Blue and Whites will be fired up to break the losing streak when the two teams meet on Sunday at the Shell Road Reserve in Ocean Grove.

In order to do so, Barwon will need to keep a lid on the Waves’ star attacker, Adrian Bond, who has scored three times against Barwon this season.

Bond netted twice in the first clash, a 4-2 win in Round 4 at Grovedale Reserve as well as scoring a single in the side’s 2-0 victory in Round 11 action last week. He failed to score in the Wave’s 3-2 Round 11 triumph at home, when Jack Pedder and Stephen McGain both scored against the Grovedale based outfit.

Pedder and McGain have both scored two goals against Barwon this year, while Craig Cameron-Smith, Sean Mahon, Oliver Hunniford and James Liddle have all scored singles against the Waves in 2015.

In the ‘first versus fourth’ semi final tie, meanwhile, minor premiers Geelong Rangers will host Drysdale SC in a re-match of last week’s game in which Rangers claimed the title with a 3-1 win at Drysdale’s Howard Glover Reserve.

It will be the second time Myers Reserve will have hosted Drysdale, with the previous clash between the two at the Bell Post Hill venue ending in a narrow 1-0 win to Rangers.

Drysdale captured all three points in the two teams’ first meeting of the year, a 4-2 triumph in Round 4 at Howard Glover Reserve.

With a 6-4 aggregate goal tally, Rangers would have to enter Sunday’s game heavily backed favourites and will be looking to its leading goalscorer Ben Noble and veteran sharpshooter Troy Hardy to earn the Dark Blues a Grand Final berth.

Drysdale, on the other hand, will rely heavily on the goal scoring exploits of the Division One’s leading marksman, Louis Stockman, who has scored a total of 14 goals so far this season.

DIVISION TWO:

DESPITE finishing in fourth spot on the ladder, Lara SC will head into Sunday’s Men’s Division Two semi final against third placed Surf Coast FC the raging hot favourites, having beaten the Torquay side in both of their league meetings this year.

A 3-2 home victory in Round 7 was followed up with a 3-1 win away from home in Round 16. Lara’s Michael Tolongou and Dale Walker have both scored two goals against Surf Coast, while the Coasters’ Mitchell Rutherford has scored in both games against the Navy Blues.

Minor premiers Barwon Heads will host neighbours Bellarine Sharks at Village Park, having won one and drawn one encounter between the two sides this year.

The Hammerheads won the first clash in Round 5 in St Leonards 3-1, before being held to a 1-1 draw at home in Round 14.

DIVISION THREE:

SUNDAY’S semi final between minor premiers Corio Bay Blue and the fourth placed Surfside Waves White will be a decider in the true sense of the word.

Not only will the winner automatically advance into next Sunday week’s Grand Final, but they will also have ended the season with a 2-1 win-loss record and bragging rights over their semi final opponents.

The Cobras defeated the Waves 5-3 in their Round 2 clash at Surfside’s Shell Road Reserve, before succumbing to the Ocean Grove team 1-4 in their Round 17 clash at home. Surfside’s Stephen McGain scored a hat-trick on that day and will be the player Corio Bay will be most wary of on Sunday

In the other semi final pairing, second placed Geelong SC will host third placed Deakin Ducks Green at this year’s Grand Final venue, Stead Park.

The two teams have met only once in regular season competition, in Round 11 action on the 12^th of July, with the Lions easily outclassing the Students 4-0 on their home turf.

Geelong’s goalscorers on the day included Michael Nikolovski, who was the scorer of a brace, along with singles to the two Zorans – Talevski and Ristevski.
