This will be the third encounter between the two finalists so far this season, with minor premiers Kardinia and fourth placed Surfside having already met twice during the regular season.
The first encounter, way back in mid May at Ocean Grove’s Shell Road Reserve, ended in a scoreless draw.
In the Round 14 clash at Kardinia College in early August, Kardinia convincingly won to the tune of three goals to one. Annie Liddy-Corlett and Sofia Harrop were the scorers for the Students - along with an own goal - while Cath Sattler was the Waves’ lone scorer.
With 20 goals to her credit, young Harrop is the League’s second highest goalscorer, behind runaway ‘Golden Boot’, Madeleine Lee Gow, who netted an astounding 35 times for the Deakin Ducks in 2015.
Gow’s Ducks, who finished in second spot, take on third placed Barwon SC in the other semi-final at the neutral venue of Stead Park.
Both teams have also met each other twice this year, with Deakin holding a commanding two wins to zero advantage over Barwon.
In the first game, a Round 3 fixture at Grovedale Reserve on the 2nd of May, Deakin came away with a narrow 2-1 win.
In the Round 12 clash on the 18th of July, however, Madeleine Lee Gow sensationally scored four times to lead her charges to an emphatic 5-0 demolition of Barwon. That game was also held at Grovedale Reserve, due to the unavailability of Deakin’s ground.
The winners of Saturday’s respective semi-finals will meet in the GRFC Women’s Division Grand Final on Saturday 19th of September at Stead Park.
