Facing a nervous task against a side who had beaten them once and come close twice this season, Saints finals experience shone through against Centrals Trinity Bech in the 14.16 (100) to 8.12 (60) victory.
Two early Saints goal caught the Bulldpgs on the hop but Centrals rallied to show signs that they were capable of an upset. Two goals to start the second term got them within five points but the Dogs could not grab the moment, failing to turn repeated forward 50 entries into goals.
At the other end Jack Philp, Alex Macqueen, Tom Bartlett and young gun Jacob Heron, who got a standing ovation when snubbed in the last quarter, all booted two majors each to run away with the victory. But captain Jesse Dixon praised the six men at the other end for setting up the victory. "Our defence was on; they came at us but we were able to minimise the damage and then it was good to see other outlets to goal other than Matt Walsh", Dixon said.
"Defence was the key and it was good to get through that we know then can be a dangerous side." Bulldogs coach Heath Mitchell was disapointed to bow out in such tame fashion. "It was dissapointing because we set targets, skills, out spread and run and not allowing an uncontested - and didnt acheive them," he said. "I thought they played very well and deserve credit but we butchered the football."
