GOONDIWINDI is through to its first AFL Darling Downs grand final in 12 years after a 14.9 (93) to 6.6 (42) victory over South Toowoomba in Saturday's preliminary final.
The Hawks have struggled to match up with the Bombers this season, but they came out firing in the sudden-death clash with a 4.2 to 0.1 opening quarter.
Honors were shared in the second term with three goals apiece before Goondiwindi forged ahead in the third quarter.
The Hawks will take on minor premiers Coolaroo in this Saturday's decider at Heritage Oval.
Meanwhile, Dalby has a shot at back-to-back women's premierships after overcoming Coolaroo 12.11 (83) to 3.7 (25) in the preliminary final.
The Swans trailed by five at quarter-time before springing to life in the second quarter to book a showdown with the Tigers in the grand final.
Season leading goal-kicker Kira-Lee Dyke was brilliant in front on the big sticks with seven majors while Grace Krautz kicked all three of Coolaroo’s goals.
Finally, South Burnett has made its second-straight division two decider with a 12.12 (84) to 9.6 (60) victory over Highfields.
The Saints led by eight points at the first change before a blistering 6.4 to 2.1 second term saw that blow out to 35 at halftime.
Highfields kept chipping away and managed to get within 27 at three-quarter time, but it wasn't enough to run down the Saints.
South Burnett will face Dalby in the grand final.
In junior matches the U16 Swans comfortably got through their preliminary final encounter with the Cougars and will line up against minor premiers South Toowoomba in the McDonalds Cup.
Dalby also progressed through to next week’s Grand Final in the U14 age group in what is a massive day for the club who are represented in 4 of the 6 grand finals played on the day. The Swans will face off against the Cougars in this age group with the Cougars also through to the Grand Final in the U12’s against the Bombers.
