The Rising Star nominee for Round 18 is Ben van den Nieuwenhof from Western Suburbs.
A 20 year old who never played a junior game of footy, he only played some games last year as a mate, Aaron Connelly, dragged him along when Western Suburbs under 19s were struggling for numbers.
His preferred sport is cricket and has played a bit of league and basketball.
Ben says that he has been surprised by the amount of senior games he has played this year.
He had no expectation and just thought he would play some 2s games with his mates.
Although he played nearly all his footy this year as a medium - tall defender his preferred position is forward.
He will continue to improve his fitness and skills and is excited by the young group that he is part of at the Magpies.
