In the U12's the University Cougars kept their winning way with a comprehensive 7.11-53 victory over Coolaroo 0.1-1. The first half was a low scoring affair with the scores 1.3-9 to 0.1-1 but they ran away with the match in the premiership quarter. Liam Frost was named best on ground with Nick Maxwell booting 2 goals in the low scoring affair. Coolaroo will now face South Toowoomba to book a place in the Grand-Final.
The U14's saw the University Cougars beat the Dalby Swans 9.4-58 to 6.5-41. The Cougars ran out to a 20 point lead in the first quarter were never headed. The match tightened up after the first quarter the Swans were always chasing their tails. Storm Arnold was best on ground kicking 2 goals from the midfield and Jayden Fidge kicked 3 to be the leading goal kicker on the day. The Swans will play against the South Toowoomba Bombers next week to book themselves a rematch with the Cougars on Grand-Final Day.
The U16's Semi-Final was played between the South Toowoomba Bombers and the University Cougars. At half-time the difference was 2 points as the Cougars had taken their chances while the Bombers were wasting theirs. They say games are won the third quarter and this match was no different as the Bombers kicked 4 goals to 1 goal to give themselves a 17 point lead heading into the last quarter. The match ended Souths 8.11-59 defeated University 5.8-38. Young gun Justus Liddicoat was best on ground while Tyler Gilmore kicked 3 important goals to lead them to victory. The Cougars will now play the Swans with the winner going through to the Grand-Final.
The Division 2 Mens Semi-Final was an exciting game of Football. The Sains got out to a 20 point lead early in the first quarter but the Swans hit back to be only 8 points down at quarter time. By three quarter-time the difference was only 2 points. The Swans turned on in the last quarter kicking 2.7 while keeping the Saints to only the solitary behind. The Swans won through to the Grand-Final 12.14-86 to the Saints 10.10-70. The Saints will now take on the Lions to get themselves into the Grand-Final.
The battle of the 2 top teams in the women’s never lived up to the hype as the powerful Tigers rolled over the top of the defending premiers the Dalby Swans. The Tigers started the stronger racing to a 19 point lead in the first quarter. The next 3 quarters were a grind as both teams only kicked 4 goals between them for the rest of the match. The end result was Toowoomba Tigers 6.9-45 defeated the Dalby Swans 1.1-7. Molly Cooper kicked 2 goals while Nicole Richards was named best on for the Tigers. The Swans will now play Coolaroo for a chance to defend their title against the rampaging Tigers.
Coolaroo won through to their 2nd Grand-Final in 3 years with a 14.15-99 victory of the Goondiwindi Hawks 8.4-52. By quarter time the Hawks were leading by 3 points having taken their chances in the rain. The Roos turned it on the rain the second quarter and blew the Hawks off the park with a 7 goal quarter. The rest of the match was goal for goal but the Hawks could never reel in the 2nd quarter deficit. Adam Green kicked 5 while big ruckmen Corin Sankey was best on ground for the Roos. The Hawks will look to bounce back when they take on the South Toowoomba Bombers in a week’s time.
