Two very successful days of SAPSASA Basketball were conducted at the Ice House in August. Under the direction of SAPSASA Coordinator, Tony O’Connell, and the cooperation of School supervisors the days ran smoothly and on time.  Features of the days were the positive spirit in which the games were played and overall behaviour of the children. 

The District Day involved 37 teams from Schools within the local area. A total of 72 mini-games were played in the four divisions of Years 5/6 Boys and Girls and Years 6/7 Boys and Girls. Two teams from each division won places in the Regional Day.

They were Years 5/6: Girls Reidy Park and Gambier North, Boys Tenison Woods College A and Reidy Park. Years 6/7: Girls Tenison Woods College A and Reidy Park, Boys Tenison Woods College A and Mulga Street.    

Last Friday two teams in each Division from Upper South East and Mid-South East regions joined the Lower South East representatives in competitions to play off in the State Finals.

A total of 24 teams participated in 60 mini-games over the day of non-stop basketball.

Both Boys’ Divisions had three teams on equal points at the end of the competitions, Tenison Woods College, St. Anthonys and Naracoorte resulting in the state finalists being decided on percentage. Naracoorte were the winners in both Years5/6 and 6/7 Boys.

The Years 6/7 Girls state finalist is Tenison Woods College who were undefeated for the day. St Anthonys fielding a tall side, lost just one game for the day and went on to win the Years 5/6 Girls’ state final place.
