The major Semi-Finals are in for the under 14 McDonald’s Shield competition. The University Cougars and the Dalby Swans have dominated the season to date only loosing 2 games between them.
The Cougars and the Swans have only played once this year and the game was a hard fought affair. The game was locked at half time at 22 apiece before a 2.4-16 quarter for the Cougars while keeping the Swans scoreless set up the victory. Diing Akol was the difference kicking 4 goals in match that only had 10 goals kicked between both teams.
The Cougars have had a smaller forward line with Callum Banim kicking 38 goals for the season followed by Diing Akol and Jaiden Fidge. The Cougars have a potent forward line that can take the game away from Dalby. The Swans however boast one of the best 1-2 forward lines in the competition with Joshua Halling kicking 64 goals while Ben Lequesne has kicked 38 goals playing as the perfect foil for Josh. This game will be exciting with both forward lines able to kick a big score.
This game will be won in the midfield and for the Cougars they will look for Storm Arnold to drive them out of the midfield. In the 9 times that he has played he has been named in the best 8 times. Storm is a very clever footballer and will look to give his forwards first option. For the Swans they will look for big mobile ruckmen Cameron Ferguson to give them first usage in the middle of the field. He will set himself up for a big game and look to dominate from the outset.
This game will come down to whoever is more desperate and will to push back and defend. Both teams will need to be on their best defensively to move into the Grand-Final.
