The major Semi-Finals are here with a place in the 2015 McDonalds Trophy on the line. The undefeated University Cougars come up against the 2nd placed Coolaroo Roos in a battle of David and Goliath.
They have met twice this year in rounds 5 and 9 where the might of the much vaunted power of the Cougars rolled over the top of the Roos. In round 5 University led from start to finish and powered away to an 8.8-56 to 1.1-7 victory over the Roos. In round 9 the Roos were able to halt the scoring power of the Cougars but they still went down 0.2-2 to 6.9-45.
For the Cougars they have destroyed teams all year with their scoring power the 2nd best in the competition scoring an impressive 1524 total points for the year. Brodie Speed, Nicholas Maxwell and Nyok Kag are all in the Under 12 Top 10 goal kicking race and will need to be closely watched by the Roos. The reason behind their undefeated season so far is however the way they suffocated opposition teams through-out the year. In total they have had only 41 points kicked against them all year, an average of 2.9 points against a game.
For the Roos they have been dominating teams all year long only losing twice. Coolaroo have played an exciting brand of football and will rely on their midfield talents of Harrison Copeland and Sam Dearnaley. Both boys have been named in the best 12 times this year and will need big games from them both to beat the Cougars. Their Forward line is led by Riley Fleming who has kicked an impressive 31 goals for the season including a big bag of 9.
This game could come down to the wire and could be decided by who settles in first and plays this game as just another game. Neither team can look to play in Grand-Final without first defeating their opposition this week. This is a game not to be missed.
