The AFL Sydney Round 16 Rising Star nominee is Dylan Sanderson from St George.
Dylan “Tex” Sanderson is a local St George junior having played his junior football with the Miranda Bombers Football Club. He came to St George as a 15 year old in early 2013 and played a major role in the Dragons U18’s run to the finals that year kicking close to 50 goals for the season and finishing runner up in the B&F. In 2014 Dylan was a member of the Dragons U19 Premiership side as well as making his debut for Premier League in a handful of senior games. This year has seen Dylan selected to play in 3 TAC Cup games for the NSW/ACT Rams as well as make his debut for the Sydney Swans Reserves whilst also cementing his place in the Dragons forward line. Dylan has also been a member of the Sydney Swans Academy since 2010.
Below are comments from Terry Mudge:
“Tex epitomises the DNA Culture we are building at St George with our local juniors and we see him as a future leader of our club. He has over the last few years shown great promise and has ticked all boxes of the tasks we have set throughout his development into a senior player. Whilst categorised by some throughout his career as a mid-size “goal sneak” the last few weeks have shown that he can be an out and out goal kicker in his own right. He is a strong overhead mark, clean when the ball is below his knees and he keeps his feet very well also. Having worked hard on the defensive side of his game Dylan also provides us with great chase and where necessary he can cover a wing or half back flank.”
