The Mid West minor round concludes with wins to the Hawks, Bulldogs and Tigers.
The close one of the round was at Wudinna, with Western Districts finishing their season on a high note, although it didn’t always look like this was going to be the case, five goals to one down at quarter time. Hard to find space as the defensive tactics of both sides looked to restrict scoring. Districts worked their way back into the game and then took it away from the Maggies in the last quarter.
Scott Feltus great in the middle, and sealing the League MVP award with a best on ground display. Angus Gunn was able to find space where others couldn’t and had a great day out. Joe Williams Locky Mc Innis also heading the best for the Tigers , Chris Williams chipping in for a vary handy three goals, a good return on a day where shots on goal were at a premium. Sam Buckham leading the way for the Magpies, Henry Zwar taking all the hard knocks again, Derek Williams and Matt Greatbatch good games around the middle. The Maggies just having difficulty finding regular routes to goals, and one week left to get this right.
The Hawks travelled to Wirrulla, getting to job done in a physical and at times spiteful encounter between neighbouring clubs. Yanni Kozminski reported in the match, and send off yellow cards being issued to he and Ryan Watson. The Bombers three goals down at the half time break, but the Hawks progressively extended their advantage to nine goals in the end.
Dillon Montgomerie a big game in the Hawks mid field and wonderful disposal skills. Cam Montgomerie with leg speed and guile, Nick Schumann, right in the thick of things as usual, and big man Joe Danis in the best. For the Bombers, Jason Henderson led the way, he is having a great season and will be a key in the finals, Rowan Chester, Adam Braendler, both finding plenty of the footy and dangerous all day, Ryan Watson, vigorous workmanlike football, and the classy Simon Webb. Finals next week for the Bombers at Elliston and the week off for the ladder leading Hawks,
Central Eyre enjoyed a nice tune up for their own finals campaign, with Elliston undermanned and maybe a bit weary as the season ends for them. Quite a few fronting for A and B Grade duty for the Roosters. Always a hard road trip.
Jake Bruce leading the way for Central Eyre, a big key for the Bulldog chances going forward, his latter half following return to fitness has been breath taking, Jake Sampson had the ball on a string, Jared Sampson, silky smooth operator and lethal with every disposal, Connor Dowden another great game and loves the hard ball. Four goals a good return, The Roosters key players to the fore, Ross Bascomb, Tom Haarsma, Adam Green, Jay Williams and Matt Bascomb. Team leaders and have carried a heavy load for week to week, all regularly in the best and trying their hearts out for the red and white cause.
The Tigers and Roosters now retire to ponder 2016, and the Mid West major round takes centre stage, week one at Elliston, a true neutral venue.
