Runner rub down
Opening up this week, Danny has been disturbed to come across an image of Holroyd-Parramatta runner, Lachlan Pryor from the weekend. Messages were at a premium for five minutes as Pryor was on the rub down bench, and on the phone. At the time, there was a line-up of three players just out of shot.
Parliamentary privilege
It might be from the previous week but it is still worthy of a mention. NSW Premier Mike Baird was spotted down at Weldon Oval in club merchandise on Ladies Day to witness Premier Division run out strong winners over St George to lock in a double chance. In great news for the GIANTS, Baird, who has been to Weldon to see the club in action before, has agreed to be Club Patron for the remainder of this season and also 2016. The GIANTS are hoping to see him at Henson on the last Sunday in September.
No one goes Harder
This is how you celebrate a milestone! UTS Bats veteran, George Harder celebrated his 150th with a five-goal, best on ground performance for the Bats over Balmain at Waverley Oval. Social media was running off the charts too with the hashtag #noonegoesharderthangeorgeharder.
Streaker with a difference
There was an interesting moment in the UNSW/ES v Mac Uni women's match on Saturday when a streaker fully clothed in pink decided to grace Village Green much to the amusement of all involved. Danny is still trying to track down the perpetrator.
Lost Keys
The AFL Sydney department this week found a set of keys (pictured left) which they are hoping the owner will recognise and collect. There is rumours that they may belong to a (self-appointed) efficient ball user in the East Coast Eagles halfback line. The question however is, why after several months is this players ex-girlfriends ‘cute’ heart shaped Harrods locket still on these keys? Does the candle still burn for this former lover? At least they should be easily identifiable and the owner should contact the Football Operations Manager for collection.
Dannys Week Starts Off Well
Danny is a regular watcher of Channel V on foxtel and likes to have a dance in his living room before going to work. When Danny turned the TV to the music channel, he was excited to find out that a Taylor Swift vs Katy Perry battle was on. All through the day, Danny was heard humming songs from both artists. And to quote Danny, "No better way to start off a Monday."
Big stage for the Unity Cup
The UTS Shamrocks will take on Auburn Giants Australian Football Club at Spotless Stadium this Sunday, 9am and play for the annual women’s 'Unity Cup'. This is a curtain raiser for the GWS Giants v Essendon Football Club Multicultural Round clash. Waaaat!
Confusion was rife at Weldon Oval last week as UTS believed they were one point up late in their Premier Division clash with Manly-Warringah. Employing swing man, Tom Larby behind the ball, the scoreboard attendants realised there was an error on the board, with the GIANTS actually five points up. It was like a scene from Braveheart with the defenders rushing forward from UTS upon acknowledgement of the scoreboard change, only for the final siren to sound.
Needle in the Hay stack
Young Pennant Hills player Nick Hey thought he had finally played his long awaited Premier Division breakout game against UNSW last week, but was sadly mistaken.
Nick kicked four goals from four touches of the footy, and spent the rest of the game screaming at players who didn't kick it to him. Despite this, Nick was named best on ground and carried a rude strut around that night at the club function. Nick was heartbroken when later in the week the best list was changed, and he found out he was only listed as best on ground as a result of an admin error.
Rumour has it Nick had already gone to dinner and spent big cash at Darling Harbour celebrating his new found form with his girlfriend Grace... Sorry Nick!
There is only one scribe in town
As the ending of Danny's Diatribe nears so does the writing career of Holroyd-Parramatta Goannas’ Michael Stacey. It has become apparent that Stacey, or the Stacespeare of writing, has submitted nearly all of the dribble regarding Holroyd-Parramatta Goannas players. Although his form on the field has been less that impressive (according to teammates), his skills with a pen writing dribble has been "on point". RIP Michael Stacey's writing career.
Big round for AFL Sydney
Finally, there are a number of big days around the grounds this weekend, as follows:
• North Shore- Back to Bears Day, and also celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1985 premiership, and the 10th anniversary of their 2005 premiership.
• Sydney University Old Boys Day with five of their seven games at home
• UNSW/ES- Past Players Day at Village Green, celebration of a current day veteran and reunion of the 1995 and 2005 Reserve Grade premiership teams.
