In round 14 I spoke about how important the reserves competition is to not only the league but also clubs and the value of having these players at a football club is immeasurable.
In saying that I believe no team is better or more important than the other. This includes the netballers and the effort they put in each and every week.
When I was out at Benalla and Euroa on the weekend I cringed at times at how hard these girls play and to do it in the rain on a very hard surface is a mindblowing effort. Obviously the senior football has an important part to play on match day but I like many others have a great appreciation for the thirds in each and every football club.
This group of young men are fantastic, with games starting at 10.00am all across the GOTAFE Goulburn Valley Football League some of these guys are up at the crack of dawn (sometimes before it for the Mansfield lads) to ensure they are at their game an hour before the first bounce so they can prepare for that game.
The quality of football for those of us that watch it each and every week is outstanding with several players potentially pushing for TAC Cup opportunities in the next 12 months.
The performance of Seymour player Joshua Schache in the national championships epitomises the talent that this region can produce.
The other exciting thing for the league to see is over 40 players who have played 1 or more games of senior football this year could still play in the u18s competition, in fact 2 of these players could still play in the u16’s.
The quality of youth players across the GOTAFE GVFL is outstanding and it’s a testament to clubs, coaches and their efforts to educate and guide players.
Whilst it has been spoken about a lot and as a league we are looking forward to 2016, the opportunity for a group of these young men to play together in the interleague team will be something to behold. Until that opportunity comes against Ballarat Football League next year I encourage all the supporters, administrators and general fans of the GOTAFE GVFL to turn up to the footy one day over the next 5 weeks at 9.55am to watch the next generation of GOTAFE GVFL superstars and potential future AFL stars ply their trade in the u18s.
I want to thank our sponsor Sherrin who not only look after the league in regards to their finals footballs but also sponsor an award voted for by the time keepers in the u18’s (The Sherrin Award). The winner of this award receives a $300.00 sports pack.
