COMPETITION leaders Kardinia International College claimed yet another scalp on the weekend, defeating fourth placed Surfside Waves 3-1 in Round 14 of the GRFL Women’s Division on Saturday.

On a cold and windswept pitch at Kardinia College, the Waves were caught out in the first five minutes by a Kardinia attacking move which saw the visitors let in a sloppy goal.

As the half wore on, however, the Waves started creating chances which resulted in Cath Sattler equalising in the 35th minute.

The Waves fell asleep again at the start of the second half and conceded soon after the re-start. A lack of an interchange began to take its toll on the Waves as Kardinia killed the game off as a competition scoring its third midway through the second half.

Annie Liddy-Carlet scored a double, while prolific markswoman Sofia Harrop got the other goal – her 14^th for the season - ensuring the Students remain six points ahead of Deakin on the standings.

The second placed Ducks annihilated a disappointing Geelong SC 9-1 at Stead Park to remain within striking distance of Kardinia.

The star of the show for Deakin was hat-trick hero Julia Mann, Lauren Baker chipped in with a double, while Madeleine Lee-Gow, Kelsey Icardi, Romani Leech and Christie Merry all scored singles.

In the late game of Saturday’s double header at Stead Park, home side Geelong SC Red drew 1-1 with third placed Barwon SC. Mollie Adams was the scorer for the Lions, while Ruby Chafer scored for Barwon.

In the other games, Barwon Heads and Corio Bay played out a 0-0 draw at Village Park in Barwon Heads, while 6^th placed Breakwater Eagles thumped 8^th placed Surf Coast FC 4-0 at the White Eagle Club.

With 14 rounds complete, Kardinia heads the standings on 38 points, six ahead of Deakin and a whopping ten ahead of third placed Barwon SC (28 points). Surfside Waves make up the top four with 27 points.
