Moreton Bay United Women led for the first time this season before Western Pride Women recovered to win 5-2 at Wolter Park on Sunday.
Though neither is in contention for a top six spot, both teams are likely to take positives from Pride’s fifth win and a season-high two goals for Jets.
The hosts grabbed a surprise opener in the 10th minute when Rose Nisbet became Jets’ second goalscorer of the campaign, tucking away Zozia Sen's cross from the right.
Courtney Bascunan was in the thick of the visitors’ attempts to equalise and did just that midway through the first-half, latching on to an underhit backpass to finish under Renee Rudder.
Pride erased their early concern three minutes later as player-coach Maggio capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to make it 2-1.
Rudder was kept busy for the remainder of the first half but couldn’t keep the away side from capturing a two-goal cushion just before the break courtesy of Ebony McQueen's goal.
Jets adopted an attacking outlook after the restart, led largely by Sen, and were rewarded on the hour when a foul in the area on the 16-year-old allowed Pamela Kennard to reduce the deficit.
However, the comeback only lasted two minutes as Maggio raced through on goal and clipped a finish over Rudder for her second and Pride’s fourth.
The former Westfield W-League player next struck the crossbar from the edge of the area, though midfielder Mowbray went one better with three minutes remaining to complete the scoring.
Speaking after the match, Jets coach Gary Ward rued the “silly mistakes” which kept his side from taking any points but spoke positively of the effort.
“I think in passages of the game they really it took to (Pride). I think they showed in the second half how well they can play,” Ward said.
Pride assistant coach Meshelle Ryan praised the Ipswich side’s performance in coming from behind.
“Great build-up play again from the back and in the midfield. Just that little bit of finishing would have been a bit better today,” Ryan said.
