Subiaco recovered from an early deficit to hand Armadale a 4-2 defeat at Alfred Skeet Reserve on Saturday.

Gerry McEwan’s side played to their strengths and scored twice before half time – Ian McMurray’s fine finish was followed by an own goal - to cancel out Armadale’s promising start through Raveshlan Kuppusamy’s opener.

The score blew out after half-time thanks to another own goal and Josh Booysen’s penalty, although Mitch Castrilli pulled one back for the hosts, scoring directly from a corner.

Subiaco skipper Nathan Diaz returned to the squad after two weeks on holiday and was pleased with the team’s performance.

“The boys did very well,” he said. “We had a game plan and we stuck to it.

“Everything was paying off for us and we were scoring goals, so it was good.”

Fifteen-year-old Ignacio Dominguez started for Subiaco and his energy kept the opposition busy on the left wing.

“He’s a good young talent,” Diaz said.

“He’s not scared of anyone. He gets stuck in all the time and that’s what we want from our young boys.”

Another young Subiaco player Ross Jarmon came on in the last 10 minutes after starting in last weeks’ game.

“Our coach wants all the youth players to come through so to put in a good performance for him was great,” Jarmon said.

After Kuppusamy’s 10th-minute opener, Subiaco hit back when McMurray fired into the far corner in the 15th minute.

Subiaco then hit the front on the half hour when the ball deflected off a defender out of reach of goalkeeper Dylan Wilson.

Armadale coach Paul Price was disappointed with another home loss.

“We started pretty brightly but it’s hard to come back from 3-1,” Price said.

“I thought our lads battled on until the end. They tried their hardest. I can’t fault them for that.

“(Subiaco) are fit young strong boys and we knew they would be strong in the air up front.”

A goal five minutes into the second half increased Subiaco’s lead. A free-kick into the box from Ger Fitzgerald was not dealt with and in the scramble to clear the ball it ricocheted into the net off an Armadale defender.

Booysen calmly converted 75th-minute penalty two minutes before Castrilli brought some cheer to the home fans with a vicious corner that curled in at the far post.
