DAY FIVE ROUNDUP

Gold medal games are set for the U15/U17 National Championships!

All medal games are now set for tomorrow's final day of the Canada Basketball U15 and U17 National Championship in Edmonton, Alberta!

The top teams from the U15 and U17 divisions faced off today and the cream rose to the top.

On the U15 side, Ontario dominated Manitoba, 84 to 43, to advance to the gold medal game. Ontario controlled the game from the tip with Laurent Boers (18 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals), Laeticia Amihere (15 points, 5 rebounds) and Keishana Washington (14 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals) leading the way!

Quebec topped New Brunswick on the other side, 70 to 61, in an extremely entertaining game. Quebec went into the halftime break with a 20 point lead only to see that slip away as New Brunswick cut it down to 5 points!

Quebec was able to hold on behind the strong play of Sarah Te'Biasu, who finished with 18 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and a game high 9 steals and Kenya Cote-Lysius 15 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists!

For New Brunswick, their gutsy effort was lead by Rachel Farwell's 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals and Sandy Saunders, who turned in an outstanding performance of 25 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists.

For the U17's, Manitoba will return to defend their gold medal from last year's National Championship after defeating British Columbia, 76 to 62.

Manitoba made their return to the finals behind Kyanna Giles 24 points and 8 rebounds, Keylyn Filewich's 12 points and 8 rebounds and Kyla Giles all around play of 12 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals!

BC was lead by Louise Forsyth's 15 points and 7 rebounds.

In the other U17 semi final, Ontario pulled away from Saskatchewan for the 60 to 40 win. After an even first quarter, Ontario was able to put together a 19 to 5 second quarter that was kept throughout the rest of the game.

Behind 16 offensive rebounds by the Ontario team and strong all around play, Ontario was able to move past the scrappy Saskatchewan team.

Ontario will meet Quebec in the U15 gold medal final while New Brunswick squares off against Manitoba for the bronze. In the 5th place game, host Alberta will face Nova Scotia.

For the U17's, defending champs Manitoba take on an Ontario team that has remained undefeated throughout the tournament. Saskatchewan will challenge BC while host Alberta will have a rematch against Quebec for 5th place.
