Blacktown is burning
Word is the grass is still recovering after Lael Kassem burned the grass with an electrifying turn of pace to kick arguably the Goal of the Year in NSW/ACT’s loss to QLD in the Women’s State clash on Sunday. It has dominated social media this week (if you have seen it yet, click here).
Collier Makes the Big Time
Female football in general is running hot with UNSW/ES’ Maddy Collier getting plenty of news herself for her selection in the Women’s Draft for the upcoming Melbourne v Western Bulldogs clash. Check out the website article at http://www.foxsportspulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-1047-0-0-0&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=35408167 including the moment she told her mum the news.
Umpires bouncing in Lords
A couple of former AFL Sydney umpires were snapped with some famous personalities last week at the Lords Cricket Test Match. Paul Barron was pictured with former Prime Minister and cricket tragic, John Howard, while Will MacArthur was shot alongside Mitchell Marsh.
Pettersson vs Angel
The bromance between the duo continues as shots were parted via Snapchat during the week as you can see on the left.
From an unnamed source involving Pettersson, “Some interesting team rules between Leigh Brain and the Manly captain (Pettersson) were explored this week. After the Manly and UTS game was called off due to wet weather, the Manly boys were seen celebrating at the Steyne Hotel. Pettersson was overheard by locals at the pub saying "I can't believe how much authority I have around these traps. How I blatantly was able to get the game called off by council due to "wet" weather is beyond me. If I can't play, nobody plays baby"
From an unnamed source involved Angel, “Tom Angel has made his way up to Splendour on the Grass to spend all his money he's saved,100 bucks from every best on ground he reckons...that's what he told his mates down at Manly.”
School of hard knocks
As we come towards the end of the season we see an upset Mark 'Daics' Maher from Camden now second guessing his decision to put his head over the footy instead of waiting for cheap kicks from the back of pack (according to teammates), similar to his idol Luke Bodeker, who we have seen before regretting his choice to get the hard ball as it blemished his well maintained dial. As rumours come forward that Maher's captaincy could come to an end, we may see this shocking mug with a few more knocks in coming weeks, which people at the club have said would probably do it a couple of favours.
Teddy Bear Allsopp
Danny was disturbed about this one. Club Joker Jezza (Jerrime Allsopp from Campbelltown) seen pictured playing, was commended for his game on the weekend with his supposed toughness resulting in him finishing the game bandaged up and looking like a former Pat Cash or Paul Sironen. This spirit, passion and desire translated to him gaining the Players Player award. Pumped up on his first Players Player award after 3 years of playing AFL, Jezza along with Wrighty and Big Toddy ventured to Fever at Campbelltown RSL. After several frothies were downed, the truth was revealed, as Jezza admitted to all that in fact, the head strapping was not due to a head knock but rather to hold back his long lock of hair so that he could see, earning himself ridicule for the remainder of the night (and Danny hopes the season)!
Byrned in the Best and Fairest
Adam Byrne or the 'People's Person of Div 4' as he wants to be known was reportedly filthy at a recent call up to Division 1 against Pennant Hills. The Division 4 Best and Fairest is said to be a two-horse race between the Peoples Person and Jordan Pidgeon. Byrne was heard telling his team mates after the game that he was a certainty to poll 3 votes in the Division 4 game and that the promotion could cost him the Best and Fairest award. His relationship with Division 1 coach Jack Schwarze is said to be on the rocks.
