Matthew Deane is determined to find his way back in the Mooroopna senior team as the countdown begins to the September action.
The 19-year-old debuted against Seymour in May and played five games in a row before losing his spot after going on a trip overseas for a month.
He returned to the team last weekend and he hopes to play well enough to help the senior team qualify for the finals.
After growing up in Nagambie and playing the majority of his footy with the Kyabram District League club, Deane made the decision to cross to the Cats in his last year of thirds.
“I decided I wanted to try and better my football and I wanted to have a crack to extend myself,” Deane said.
He elected to join the Cats due some friends playing at the club.
Deane says his short stint in the seniors has been a good learning experience.
“I love that you are learning new things about the game and playing with good players,’’ he said.
The young wingman says the transition from thirds and senior football presents the usual challenges.
“I am only small and the bigger bodies, ball movement, execution and the pressure are some of the things I have had to get used to,” he said.
He says senior coach Blake Campbell has been very supportive, providing him with really good feedback.
“I’m working on improving all aspects of my game and want to improve to the point that I can cement a spot in the senior team.”
