6. James Brain
Club: Manly-Warringah
Position: Midfield
Previous Clubs: North Shore (2008-10), Sydney University/Swans Reserves (2011), Port Adelaide SANFL (2012-13), Manly Warringah (2014-)
Number in last years count: 8
Analysis:
Brain earns another berth in this year’s count on the back of another dominant season with Manly-Warringah.
The representative and Team of the Year regular since rejoining the AFL Sydney competition from a stint in South Australia, Brain brings it all in terms of what you would want from a midfielder. While not tall in stature, Brain makes up for it in ball-winning ability and defensive pressure as an inside midfielder. He hasn’t hit the scoreboard as often this year which has limited his climb up the standings but he is a reliable option for his father and coach, Leigh when the whips are cracking.
Brain was talented as a youngster having experience with the NSW/ACT Rams, and also GWS and the Swans in the respective Reserve Grade competitions. He also played 2 games for Brisbane Lions Reserves (scholarship player in 2007) and most recently 14 games across two years in the Port Adelaide senior SANFL side.
