Thunder Women Shoot To Three Straight

SWQ Thunder Women continued their fine late-season form with a 6-0 win over an under-strength Moreton Bay United Women at Wolter Park on Saturday.
Four goals after half-time did the bulk of the damage as the visitors made it three on the bounce.
Defeat keeps Jets without a point for the season, although they remain ahead of Souths United on goal difference.
Talitha Doro had Thunder’s earliest sights on goal but it was Rosanna Berry who opened the scoring, adding the finishing touches after two attempted clearances were blocked.
Chances continued to flow for the away side and eventually resulted in a second for Craig Burgess’ side just after the half hour.
Dangerous attacker Abbey Lloyd arrived at pace in the penalty area to pick up a loose ball and finish past Renee Rudder.
Lloyd might have wrapped up victory inside the first 45 minutes but spurned a golden chance from close range with only one retreating defender to beat.
Thunder did get their third within three minutes of the restart, however, as Berry was on hand to poke home at the far post from a left-sided cross.
Zozia Sen did well to break into the area for a rare Jets opportunity soon after but could only shoot straight at the goalkeeper.
Though more chances went begging for Thunder, the Toowoomba team ensured any unlikely comeback was out of reach in the 78th minute with Lloyd’s solo effort taking a touch before sneaking inside the near post.
Lloyd completed her hattrick two minutes later by controlling a direct ball forward and rolling her finish past the onrushing Rudder.
The scoring was completed with moments remaining as Berry also made it a treble, firing home a low effort to seal Thunder’s fifth win of the campaign.
Speaking after the match, Jets coach Gary Ward pointed to only having 11 fit players as making it difficult to compete.
“We’ve got a core group there and unfortunately we had a few players away, a few injured. Towards the end of the game we not only ran out of legs but ran out of bodies as well,” Ward said.
Thunder coach Craig Burgess said his now in-form team was relishing the chance to cause a few upsets in the run-in to the season’s conclusion.
“All the teams we play are above us so it’s going to be good fun,” Burgess said.
