King Kev shows off dulcet tones
Everyone knows Western Suburbs’ coach, Kevin Eynaud from his yelling and screaming but did anyone know he can sing?! Mustang Sally is his speciality and had his very own back up dancers in Taran Etto and Jarryd Polley at the Wests Annual Winter Ball on the weekend as evidenced by the photo on the left.
Lethal delivers
Congratulations go to former UNSW/ES spearhead and Stan Milton Medallist, Leigh Lavery and his lovely wife, Shannon on the birth of Amelia Jane Lavery on Monday (all pictured left). Mum and bub are doing well.
Liles weighs in
If ever Danny needed motivation to go to the gym, he need look no further than Sydney University AFL General Manager, Tristan Liles. Liles is pictured here in the Sydney University official Sports and Fitness magazine promoting the Arena Sports Centre. The picture though fails to show the weights so the jury is still out on Liles’ performance on the barbell squat.
Big Day at the Ern
It was a big day as Pennant Hills hosted their annual match at Ern Holmes Oval on the weekend. Past and current players celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Club’s first premierships, when both the A and B Grade sides won their Second Division Grand Finals in 1975. A story of the 1975 flags was produced for the event and a number of the men involved were on hand to mark the occasion, including Club founder Kerry James, Danny Cater, Ken MacRae, Glenn Saunders, Greg Barnes and the Club’s patron Gus McKernan. Gus was also ‘special comments’ commentator on the League’s live coverage of the Demons vs Giants Match of the Day. While the club couldn’t get up for Jason Clarke’s 300th game in Division 1, the best was left to last as a rousing second half saw the Demons defeat Manly-Warringah for their second win this year over the GIANTS.
T-Train loses steam
Whilst it was a good day for most at Pennant Hills, the same couldn’t be said for Tom "Leggies" Edmonds. The dynamic midfielder pulled out of Saturday's game against Manly as to a reported case of the sniffles. He said to an informant that "I even had my mum rub some of that Vicks stuff on my chest last night and still no good."
Send me an Angel- Part 10
Continuing on the Demons’ theme, Tommy Angel who played his 101st game on Saturday was filthy no one chaired him off the ground as he wanted to celebrate his 100th at Ern Holmes. After the game he was heard to say "I've been carrying most of the blokes in this team all year and no one would carry me off the ground to celebrate my 100th from the week before."
Goanna going forward
Word has seeped through that Holroyd-Parramatta Division One back pocket and kick out specialist Michael “Cool Down” Stacey has had his dreams come true over the past few weeks in a bid to be moved up the ground and into the forward line. Famous for his boundary line snaps and inside out torps during the cool down at training, his luck has not been so prolific on game day with Michael being named 3rd best on ground in his first stint up forward, only to have Assistant Coach, Lachy Pryor claim it as a mistake and rename a debutant under 19’s to the votes instead! Controversy also sparked when Michael finally kicked a goal against Pennant Hills, only to have it be put in the stats under captain Josh Terrey’s name. Some say the skipper paid management in order to get him off the nudie run and has been quoted to Michael saying “you will never leave the backline”.
MG Mania
Instagram king and departing AFL Sydney head honcho, Matt Graham concludes our Diatribe this week. MG tipped the round in AFL Sydney last weekend (one of only 2 in the comp to do so) and was quick to let Danny know about his success. 3 text messages and several emails later, his persistence and commitment to the cause deserves a mention. He now jumps some 10 places and ahead of Danny into 4th place, 5 points behind the leader; Wombat.
