DISTRICT CLUB GIVES DAVIES SOUND GROUNDING
Tommy Davies always intended to make his stay in the Kyabram District League with Lancaster as the sounding board to re-launch his Goulburn Valley League career.
After playing his entire junior career with Kyabram, the 19-year-old went out the road to Wombat land in 2013.
He was still eligible to play under 18s, but spent the majority of the year in the seniors.
Once the season ended for the seniors when beaten by Stanhope in the elimination final, Davies returned to play with the thirds, playing a key role in guiding the young Wombats to a comfortable win over Nagambie in the season decider.
The career of Davies continued to blossom last year, but he knew he was ready to have a crack at major league footy again.
Late last year, Davies made the decision to join the Shepparton Swans.
Little did he know at the time of signing that they would this year be the hunted after claiming the premiership.
He admits that his grounding he got at Lancaster has helped re-adjust to the pressure and intensity of GV footy this year.
“I’m working on getting more disposal efficiency up because there is so much pressure when you get the ball at GV senior level,” he says.
Davies is grateful for the opportunity given to him by the Swans and he is really enjoying his experience at Princess Park.
“They are a really good bunch of blokes and they have been really welcoming,” he says.
“Sometimes you can go to a big club and it can be really hard to fit in, but they have been fantastic.”
The apprentice cabinet maker says the team will take it one game at time, with the aim to finish as high as possible and then enjoy the experience that September brings for all clubs.
