10. Blake Guthrie
Club: St George
Position: On-Baller
Previous Clubs: Coburg (VFL) 2014
Number in last years count: N/A as in another league
Analysis:
One need only look at Guthrie’s performance in AFL Sydney’s win over Canberra in the Senior representative fixture in June to see the attributes possessed by the 22 year-old inside midfielder. Guthrie was arguably the best, especially in the second half where he won a number of contested possessions for his side. It was that class that saw him invited by Coburg to ply his trade with the VFL side last year.
At a young age, his leadership skills saw him captain St George’s Premier Division side, an outfit with a number of seasoned campaigners in its ranks.
A Bankstown junior, Guthrie has also represented the Under 18 NSW/ACT Rams and the Swans at Reserves level.
While not big in stature, Guthrie is tough and has battled this year with a few niggling injuries and could improve his rating in the competition once 100% fit. He will be key to the Dragons’ chances as they look to put themselves in the premiership conversation alongside competition heavyweights Manly-Warringah, East Coast Eagles and Pennant Hills.
