They might have only been in the top flight of WA football for two seasons but Subiaco and Perth Glory Youth have begun a great rivalry that will be put to test on Saturday, July 18 at Inglewood Stadium.

The two sides have only met three times in the National Premier Leagues WA, with a win each last season, while Subiaco won bragging rights with their 3-1 victory earlier this season.

Subiaco defender Nathan Diaz said the players look forward to the game and they will be looking to do the double over Glory on Saturday.

“It’s a great initiative from the league to add these games to the football calendar, and the lads look forward to the game and they are always competitive,” he said.

“The Glory and us are both young teams, and are improving and learning more each week to compete at the top level, and I expect the games to only get better and more competitive in years to come.”

In the first game this season Jonas Dorling gave Subiaco the lead, before Glory defender Nathan Costello levelled.

But a brace from English striker Danny Milne gave the home side the points, and Diaz is hoping they can do the same on July 18.

“We are hoping we can go one better this year and win both our games against Glory,” he said.

“We are in pretty good form and the boys are confident if we stick to the game plan we will come away with the three points.”

Glory’s first ever win in the NPL came in last season first ‘Rivalry Round’ game against Subiaco at the WA Athletics Stadium, and midfielder Dejan Spaseski said the players are striving for a repeat.

“Although people may not think of this match up, as the most exciting in the rivalry round, previous games between the two clubs prove that this game can and will be entertaining,” he said.

“The prospect of having a derby is very exciting and all the boys really get up for it and nothing will change this time round.

“They beat us in the first game this season so the lads are looking forward to reversing that result on Saturday (July 18) at our place.”

Spaseski said Glory have played well this season but have not had the results on the board, but he is expecting the young side to take it to Subiaco, who have played well in recent weeks.

“They are on good form at the moment and may have taken the points last time we played,” he said.

“But that changes nothing for us. We are expecting a really tough game but are going into it looking for nothing less than three points.”
