GEELONG REGION FOOTBALL LEAGUE (WOMEN'S ROUND 11 REVIEW)

Barwon SC has cut Kardinia International College’s lead at the top of the ladder to just two points, after the Students were held to a 1-1 draw by lowly Breakwater Eagles, while Barwon easily accounted for bottom side Corio Bay 4-0 at home in Round 11 action of the Geelong Region Football League Women’s competition last Saturday.

Despite taking a point against the league leaders, courtesy of a Shannon Duffy goal at the White Eagle Club, the Eagles nonetheless dropped down a spot on the placings, as 7th placed Barwon Heads recorded an upset 2-0 win away to Geelong SC Red and managed to leapfrog the eagles into 6th spot.

Annie Liddy-Corlet was the only scorer for Kardinia, as the Students remain at the summit with 29 points, two ahead of Barwon, who had multiple goalscorers against celler dwellars Corio Bay. Drina Marincic, Paige Thompson and Talia Moston all scored singles, with the scorer of the fourth goal unknown.

Meanwhile, a rampant Deakin University Ducks ran up six goals to none in a scintillating display against the hapless Surf Coast FC at Banyul Warri in Torquay.

The Students went into the break leading 3-0 and never looked back, piling on a further three unanswered goals in the second period. Unfortunately, the list of goalscorers for Deakin was not submitted.

In the other Women’s league Round 11 encounter, Surfside Waves maintained their grip on third spot with a narrow 2-1 win over Geelong SC. Bridget Wallace and Nicole Mills were the scorers for the Waves, while Grace Thurbon was the lone scorer for the Lions.
