10th Belau Games (June 19-28, 2015)
On June 19th, the opening ceremony was held at the Palau National Gym. President Thomas E. Remengesau declared the Belau Games opened. The Belau Games included 3 days of wrestling from June 26th – 28th. On June 25th, the medical and weigh for Greco Roman Style took place the day before the competition.
Greco Roman: There were a total of 7 teams that competed in Greco Roman (Schoolboys, Cadets, Juniors & Seniors Division) on first day of competition. There were about 300 or more spectators that came to watch and support their teams. This was a double elimination tournament that allowed our athletes to compete more than once in the event they lost a match. Sonsorol State dominated the Greco Roman competition in team ranking and medals by winning a total of 11 gold medals, 5 silver and 1 bronze. Ngatpang State placed 2nd overall and Koror 3rd.
A few of the highlights included Gheno Rebelkuu of Melekeok winning 1st medal and James Dydasco of Koror in the Junior 66kg weight diviison. Jayvan Tarkong placed 3rd. In the Mens 98kg Senior Division, Omar Faustino of Melekeok won gold in a tough match in the finals after defeating Blodak Quichocho of Kayange (2nd place) and Ivan Yangrelmal of Ngatpang State (3rd Place).
