Perth SC proved far too clinical in a 3-0 win against in-form Inglewood United in their PS4 National Premier Leagues WA fixture at Dorrien Gardens.

Motivated by an interstate round of 32 Westfield FFA Cup fixture, Perth coach Taki Nicolaidis sent his side out to impress, and he was pleased with response from his players.

“Over the last few weeks we’ve been getting results without probably being as clinical as we were today,” he said.

“There has been a lot of talk from people outside saying that the focus is not on the league and it all about the FFA Cup.

“But everyone is vying for positions on that plane, and I told them to make it hard for me and make a statement, and 3-0 at the end of the day is a statement.”

A rising header by captain Clark Keitie allowed Perth to take the lead and settle into the match before Nicholas Ambrogio nodded home a beautifully worked goal that started deep in the Perth half.

Inglewood responded well in the second half and created plenty of nervous moments for the home fans, but were unable to force Perth custodian Francis Soale into any saves of note.

Brian Woodall came close to getting a goal back for the visitors after timing his run and latching onto a Mohamed Awad pass, but after rounding Soale he nervously fired wide.

With Inglewood chasing a late score, substitute Matt Milenkovic exploited the extra space to race clear and referee Joshua Manenella adjudged that he was brought down in the box.

Mark Pritchard stepped forward to dispatch the penalty with virtually the last kick of the game and give the score a resounding finish.

Inglewood coach Michael Garcia felt the 3-0 score line flattered the hosts who had scored with their only three chances of the game.

“I felt we did ok. It was a spell of 25 minutes in the first half that we didn’t really play well,” Garcia said.

“We didn’t really turn up in the first half and when you’re down 2-0 away against Perth you’re always climbing a mountain.

“You can do ok, but when people look at the score it looks like Perth have wiped us, but there wasn’t much between the two teams at all.”
