Wycheproof-Narraport v Charlton
In what turned out to be an entertaining opening term between the third ranked side in Wycheproof-Narraport and the fourth placed Charlton both side were giving their all to gain an advantage over their opposition, but neither side could get the required break. The Demons who probably cost themselves a reasonable lead at quarter time were able to go to the first break holding onto a slender 1-point lead over the Navy Blues but apart from kicking the first goal of the match the Demons looked a bit sluggish and the Navy Blues were also not performing at their best to this point.
After the first break Charlton kicked up a cog and through Kyriakides, Walklate, Vigus and Laffin produced goals for the Navy Blues which was being well supported at the other end where they likes of Winsall, Thompson, and Ben Walklate were controlling any forward moves from the Demons. Wycheproof –Narraport made many attempts forward but just seen the Sherrin return to where it came from. At half time the Demons trailed the Navy Blues by a total of 22-points and the Navies looked to be taking control of the game.
The break did not bring any change to the previous two terms with both sides finding it hard to break through the defences. Charlton were able to again get the upper hand over the home side and were able to increase their lead out to 35-points mid-term but the Demons was able to claw that lead back to 27-points just prior to the bell closing down the third term.
Rhys Thompson at half back was unpassable and was gaining great support from Winsall and Thiesz while around the ground Vigus and Aaron Walklate was causing a fair bit of havoc for the Demons. Charlton stretched their lead out to 27-points by three quarter time and were looking the better side. Wycheproof-Narraport appeared to bomb the ball into their forwards which wasn’t giving their forwards much of a chance to convert and at the final break this was one area that the coaches needed to address.
In the final quarter the Demons spirit again come to the fore as they endeavoured to reduce the lead of the Navy Blues and in the early part of the term they were able to make a claim for the four points when Allen, Howgate, Brennan and Coles brought the margin back to eight points. Charlton then lifted to reclaim control and with Vigus and Clifford doing their part the Navies steadied to get the points by sixteen and with other results favouring them they now move into second position. Better players in the Navies win included Thompson, Thiesz, Winsall, Kyriakides, Aaron Walklate, Sam O’Connor and Mick Laffin. For the Demons backmen in Rumbold, Binks were supported by Prestidge, Lourey, McLennan and Daniel Allen.
Major goal scorers for the Navies were Mark Vigus with three and Aaron Walklate two for the Demons Ricky Allan kicked two.

Donald v Birchip-Watchem
Donald went into this game with a fair bit riding on it and would class it as an eight point game a loss would see the top four sides get away from them and if they could get a win there was a strong possibility that they could make it back into the top four. Birchip-Watchem who at the start of play sat in second spot would have went into the game rather confident of holding down that spot on the ladder. Donald drew first blood with Young opening his account for the day but it had taken a while for either side to put a score on the board. The Bulls answered the Royal Blues goal late in the term and just before the first break Darby Harrison gave the home side a three point break.
In the second period Donald were again solid in defence and held the Bulls to just the one goal while they managed to add another four goals to their tally to give them a four goal lead at the main break. The Royal Blues should have been further in front but again inaccuracy in front of goal didn’t help their efforts to put the Bulls away early in the game.
After the long break Birchip-Watchem made a better effort than their first half and was quickly on the board scoring two goals to halve the lead of Donald. Gilmore who kicked their first two goals of the term marked strongly and kicked truly and this lifted the Bulls spirits. Donald struck back with goals to Young and Harrison to again increase their lead. Late in the quarter the Bulls again closed the gap to reduce the Royal Blues lead back to three goals at the final change and the Bulls gave an indication that they were right back in this game.
With the Bulls pressing hard Donald kicked back into gear and within a short space had shot out to a five goal lead which had the Bulls floundering a bit as they tried desperately to match it with the home side. Donald added five last quarter goals and held the Birchip-Watchem side back to just the two goals and at full time the Royal Blues had increased their lead out to an impressive 35-points. Young finished the day with a bag of seven goals and Darby Harrison finished with three. Wyatt, Darby Harrison, Garner, Young and Fisher were named as best for Donald and for the Bulls Gilmore finished the day with five of the Bulls eight goals. Noonan was named as best for the Bulls with Holmes, Gilmore, Hutchins and Greaney rating mentions for their game.
Final scores Donald 14-10= 94 def Birchip-Watchem 8-9=57.
St Arnaud v Boort
In the final game of the round St Arnaud were never in any trouble against Boort, leading by 41 points at the first change, 81 at half time and 123 at three quarter time to run out eventual winners by a massive 159 at full time. James McNamee finished the game with eight goals and Needs five with a group of others finishing with three goals each. Boort’s major goal kicker was Pearce who finished with three goals. Torney was named best for the Saints with Wells, Nathan Coghlan, McNamee, Baldwin and Gavan Vassallo also named in their best. For the Magpies Aaron Wilson was again their best player with Jack Smith, Harry Weaver, Robertson, Hatcher and Buchanan named amongst their best. This was bit disappointing for the Magpies after their effort of last week and the Saints keep marching on and remain two games clear at the top of the table.
