The Round 9 Women’s Rising Star nominee is Isabella Rudolph from Manly Warringah.
Izzy has been a fantastic recruit for Manly, discovered by a fortuitous reporting error which included a 4 year out of date registration list for the Manly Bombers Junior club’s W18’s team. The W18’s team manager was also the senior’s team manager and the power of Facebook had Izzy invited to join the senior side pretty quickly. She played junior football for the Bombers between 2003 and 2008, as well as playing representative football in 2007 and 2008. In 2008, her last year of junior footy, she was U14’s best and fairest for the year. With no female pathway available at the time, Izzy focused on playing soccer, becoming a first-class player in the Manly Warringah women’s premier league. She is a natural athlete and we are very happy to be able to have her back playing AFL again.
Izzy is a calm and intelligent player, a great attribute to the team and very easy to coach. She is the footballing equivalent of a smart bomb, just point her at the problem and she takes care of it. Her approach is understated and in her rigorous self-assessment she is sometimes a little hard on herself. With a strong playing history, she has quality disposal by hand and foot.
Rating every week in player’s player and best on ground awards, we think her most serious flaw as a player is not being born a twin.
