Peninsula Power Women extended their winning run to three matches with a comprehensive 9-0 defeat of Moreton Bay United Women at Wolter Park on Sunday.
The home side trailed by two at half-time but Power piled on the goals after the restart to record a second straight win away from home.
Brittany Whitfield and Melissa Limov did much of the damage and it was the former who netted first, hitting a superb first-time shot into the top corner following a partial clearance.
Power continued to knock on the door for the remainder of the half and should have had a second when Whitfield shot over the bar from six yards out, though the visitors did make it 2-0 before the break when Limov cut inside and fired into the far corner.
Jets’ competitiveness was brought undone in a three-goal burst which began with Limov scoring from the spot in the 53rd minute after Tahlia Carney was adjudged to have fouled Whitfield.
Goalkeeper Renee Rudder was deceived by a bobbling back-pass a minute later and it was suddenly 5-0 in the 59th minute as Samantha Harrington tapped in from close range.
Whitfield next netted the goal of the game by beating three Jets defenders and finishing from close range before Limov made it a rout at 7-0 in the 75th minute.
Brieanna Watt then stroked home six minutes before Limov capped her four-goal effort by converting a Whitfield pull-back for the final 9-0 scoreline.
Speaking after the match, Jets coach Gary Ward said his players were flat after being unable to replicate the effort of their first 45 minutes.
“I asked the girls after the game how they felt and disappointed was the word. In the second half we ran out of legs and the confidence and wind was knocked out of us a bit,” Ward said.
Power coach Gary Ellis praised his side’s improved composure after the restart.
“We slowed it down in the second half, controlled the ball and scored more goals,” Ellis said.
