In season 2015 Forty Winks Shepparton has increased their sponsorship within the GOTAFE GVFL through a number of different avenues.
One of those is with the prestigious Forty Winks award which this year has seen the value of the prize increase but also the process in which this award adjudicated changed.
The award previously has been decided by the ever reliant timekeepers who have an unenviable task of ensuring all our games are managed within the rules and regulations set out within the AFL Laws. In order to lighten the workload on timekeepers for season 2015 this award was handed back to each to the coaching panels of the respective teams.
The Forty Winks Most Valuable Player (MVP) voting process is managed the same way as the AFL Coaches Player of the Year award. Both teams coaches are required to give votes (5,4,3,2,1) on who they believe are the best 5 players on the ground (not just from their own team).
This gives a unique insight into what the coaches believe is a standout performance.
Over the first 9 rounds 20 individual players have collected the full 10 votes (both coaches gave them 5 votes for best on ground) they are Sam Martyn (Ben), Lachlan Smith (Ben), Simon Buckley (Ech), Matthew Pollock (Ech), Nathan Gilliland (Eur), Nicholas Coulstock (Ky), Jason Morgan (Ky), George Burbury (Mans), Nicholas Gray (Mans), Kane Boyer (Moor), Daniel Lewis (Moor), Shane McDonald (Moor), Sam Brennan (Roch), Steven Stroobants (Roch), Jason Cole (Sey), Hugh Robertson (Sey), Justin Maddern (Swans), Tom Preece (Swans), Shane Neaves (United), Matthew Rendina (United).
Amazingly 2 players Jason Morgan and George Burbury have picked up the 10 votes twice with Swans spearhead Justin Maddern picking up the full votes on 3 occasions (Round 2,3 & 9).
This process is hopefully going to be adopted next season with u18s and reserve coaching panels doing the same thing with their respective awards.
I would personally like to thank Alan Causon from Forty Winks for his continual support of the GOTAFE GVFL and ask anyone who is in the market for a bed to head out to his store within the Home Central Complex and support one of our many sponsors.
Below is the leaderboard as it currently sits at the half way mark of season 2015.
