In Round 10 Saturday results, winners were Northern Blues and Footscray in close contests, along with North Ballarat and Geelong.
A couple of upsets headlined an entertaining day of Peter Jackson VFL action on Saturday, with North Ballarat and Northern Blues defeating more fancied opponents the Casey Scorpions and Werribee respectively.
While the Roosters and Blues kept their hopes of making the finals alive, Richmond fell agonisingly short of a similar upset in a thrilling clash with Footscray and the Tigers will now need a big effort in the second half of the season to see September action.
In the day’s other match, Geelong comfortably recorded its fourth win of the season away from home against Coburg.
FOOTSCRAY d RICHMOND
Margin: 2 points
Telling facts: In a gripping, see-sawing encounter at Punt Road Oval, the Tigers took a two-goal lead into three-quarter time with their season potentially on the line. But the Dogs responded in the final term, with Ayce Cordy’s sixth goal putting them in front before a string of behinds secured Footscray’s nail-biting fifth win of 2015.
