Hi Footy Fans!
Phantom's back with his/her (gender neutral) review of AFLO round 4. We had a tie, two beltings and a close game this round with heavy rain late on Friday playing havoc with playing surfaces. Here is what happened in #AFLOrd4
Toronto Rebels vs Toronto Eagles
Getting out of bed at the proverbial sparrow's fart, the early game was a draw. Even though Phantom didn't pick a draw s/he (gender neutral) did nail it in last week's preview: "These two couldn't be more even and are 10 points apart on For and 2 points apart on Against. Phantom is predicting back and forth game all morning...". A final score of 14-14 looks more fitting as the final score at the NRL State of Origin than an AFLO game.
Broadview Hawks vs Hamilton Wildcats
The Wildcats made the long trip out to Scarborough to face the Hawk machine, showing up with 14 players and copping a 123-point hiding. Dullard and Cragg kicked 5 each and the Hawks also had some old boys on the scoresheet with Mintz and Pareja both kicking goals. Youngsters Alex Pawliwec and Mackenzie Randall kicked the goals on a tough day for the Cats.
Toronto Dingos vs High Park Demons
Talking of tough days the Demons borrowed players from two other teams including the Dingos to field a team. There is a general thought in AFLO that 10 goals will win you a match but the Dingos didnt listen and decided to win three matches by slotting 34 goals. ANd 19 behinds. Yes 53 scoring shots. Edwards kicked 12, Stewart 10 and McNaughton 5 with Ashley Martin the lone goal scorer for the Demons. Too bad this has skewed the goal kicikng for the year. Phantom is interested to see who gets the B&F votes on Awards Night.
Central Blues vs Ottawa Swans
Phantom's prediction was that Rutledge can only cover so many of the Swans forwards, so the coaches moved him forward and he kicked 3 himself. Is there anything he cant do? The Blues proved pesky and got within 14 at the last change but the Swans were just out of reach all day and ran away 15 point winners, with 7 different goalkickers. Northwind selections Cinco, Rutledge, Whyte, Strom and Harcome all in the best on a good day for Canadian footy.
Grand River Gargoyles vs Etobicoke Kangaroos
This was definitely as expected the game of the round. Phantom tipped Roos by 7 but it was even closer than that with the Kangas only getting over the line by 3. As predicted the Aussies on both teams cancelled eachother out and the Canadian lads stepped up with Manny Matata and Kyle Bridson leading the way for Etobicoke and Jacob Martin and Nathan Millar for the Gargs. At each break it was 19-18, 33-33, 48-48, 54-57. That's close. Two very even teams that Phantom would like to see play in Finals.
We're 1/3 of the way through the season already! More footy up this weekend...
