Coach Heath Mitchell hopes to change all that tomorrow when they face Saints in a clash that could congest or separate third and fourth spot. Beat Saints and the Bulldogs willl go two victories clear of them lost and they are on even terms.
"Its very important; as much to us as it is to them. A win would give us a bit of space going forward. Either way, after 10 rounds, it will be tje perfect chance to see where everyone is at, given that we have all played each other twice."
The bulldogs are equal second thanks to wins on the road against Port, Saints and Souths this season. But at home they have struggled, losing by 68 points to Souths and 14 points to Port.
Before their home ground was suitable for play they featured twice at Cazalys, beating North Cairns in the first round but losing to the Lions a fortnight later. Their only victory at Crathern Park has come agains North Cairns.
"We need to take a scalp here and I think it will come down to us playing better on what is a pretty big oval," Mitchell said. "Weve broken down a bit at home and need to adapt by not kicking to as many contests and using the space better."
Saints player coach Zac Kelly acknowledged the importance of the fixture for his men. "Its not a matter of life and death but...they got us at home last time and you never like that; its a big week for us to show we are contenders."
Saints will be strengthened by the return of Alex Macqueen, who has been kept to just five games this year with work commitments and a knee injury, while there are question marks over the fitness of several key Bulldogs.
