Netball Victoria held their annual Eastern Zone Association Championships in Leongatha on Sunday June 14 in which Gippsland League were represented by 5 teams on the day made up of two 13& under teams , two 15&under teams and a 17&U team.
The teams played in a round robin style tournament after which the top 4 in each division played off in finals. Gippsland League were lucky enough to have all five of our teams in the grand finals and eventually walked away with 3 out of five wins being the 13&under reserves division, 13&under championship division and 15&under reserve division titles. The 15&under championship division side were unlucky to lose to Alberton in the Grand final, a side that they had previously beaten in the round robin stages, while the 17&under team fell to Yarra Valley by just one goal in their grand final.
The 13&under championship division team will now move onto the association championships state finals being played on Sunday June 28 at Waverly Netball Centre. Although the 15&under and 17&under championship teams lost in the grand finals they will also compete in Melbourne as the top two finalist from Sundays tournament in all championship divisions move on. Gippsland will also have the Open team playing on June 28 also so for our league to be represented in all grades is a fantastic effort and it shows that we have lots of talent and a bright future for netball in our league
The league would like to congratulate all of the players, umpires, coaches, volunteers and support staff for helping out on the day and we are all grateful for your fantastic effort and representation of our league.
