This split round signifies the halfway mark of the Home and Away season.
It’s been a whirlwind 2015 so far with the GOTAFE GVFL and AFL Goulburn Murray relationship getting stronger and stronger each day.
At times I think as a Board and a League we always look at things on a week to week basis but this week I want to highlight some improvements that have occurred over the first half of the season and also look in the crystal ball on what is yet to come.
All senior games filmed
- The initiative by the Board and clubs to ensure every single senior game is filmed has allowed our competition to get stronger with players and coaches being able to utilise the footage to improve aspects of the game. Clubs now prepare for their next game by looking at their opposition’s game from the previous week.
- The filming of senior games has also presented a unique opportunity to promote the league further than the GV region with several state and national TV shows wishing to utilise the footage for promotional purpose
IPad’s
-
The board have provided all clubs with an IPad and a year’s worth of data to enable them to manage match day a lot easier.
-
This also included the initiation of live scoring across all 3 grades to ensure that all fans and supporters can get up to date scores wherever they are in the world.
Social Media Presence
- Our presence through our social media profile has excelled in the last few months with more and more people from across the world following what is happening with this league.
- Our twitter and facebook followers have increased by over 15% since the beginning of the season.
- Our website has seen an increase of over 300,000 hits for the months of April and May compared to season 2014 numbers.
Future is Bright
Whilst we still have a long way to go this year as a Board we must look further than the next six months to ensure this positive trend continues.
Live streaming
- The Board and clubs will continue to discuss the opportunity to live stream weekly games for season 2016.
Match Review Panel
- With improvements already made with the tribunal process the GOTAFE GVFL is hopeful of continuing this trend by introducing a MRP for season 2016. Clubs and umpires have already been provided with a draft view of what this looks like next season.
- Financial Security
- As with any business the financial security of the leagues and clubs is paramount to its success.
- Season 2015 is a learning process for the league and AFL Goulburn Murray in regards to the budgeting process.
- The previous boards with General Manager Keith Wellman have ensured that heading into 2015 the league was in great financial shape.
- The Clubs and Board now need to determine what is the best process going forward to continue to reap the benefits that the previous administrations have put in place
Commercial Opportunities
- The league is in a great state with on field performance (interleague we will get that number 1 spot back in 2 years) now it’s time to leverage off this success to create better commercial opportunities. The league will access all commercial opportunities to offset growing costs associated with running the league and assisting clubs.
The Competition
While we as a board discuss off field activities the interest is always on field and although Rochy are out in front by a couple of games , the competition is unpredictable with any side capable of causing an upset which creates great interest – I just love following the live scoring , no matter where I am , it would be interesting to know where is the most remote place people are accessing this feature from ?
A great time to be involved with this great League
