Reps steps up to the plate
We start off the Diatribe this week by giving a pat on the back to the Representative sides who contested Saturday’s matches at Blacktown.
It was fantastic in particular to see the quality in the AFL Sydney vs AFL Canberra Men’s match come to the fore in the final quarter. It was a quarter that featured two speccies on the outer wing (including one from one of the smallest players on the park in James “Puopolo” Brain), two quality tackles within the space of a minute that thwarted attacking thrusts, several goals and a brave crashing of the pack by James Dunn who was a last minute addition to the side, when the match was on the line. Who said Rep Footy was dead?!
MVP takes to the D-Floor
Here at the Diatribe, we want to get you closer to some of the stars of our competition. Western Suburbs young ace, Yannick 'MVP' Milligan Saville has been Polish dancing of late, as recently shown in this photo. He copped a fair bit of flack from the boys but continues to dominate the Wests best 6 players, dancing around his opposition. Taran Etto came to his defense and the rumour going is that he may have found someone that goes for the ball harder than himself.
Bromance goes public
After the exclusive last week about the Bromance between Wests duo, Jordan Etto and Jake Ross- they have decided to go public, as evidenced by the screen shot to the left. Danny misses nothing.
Lomas auditions for Modelling club
One of Danny’s regular contributors sent this interesting photo of Nathan Lomas (top left) during the week. The young defender has had more clubs than Tiger Woods this year (Campbelltown, St George, and now North Shore) and could well be looking for another after this effort.
Pleaseee!
He may be kicking goals on the field with Pennant Hills on the field, but it also appears to be the case off the field for Theo Moraitis, but not with his mates. The ‘bustling’ Centre Half Forward was recently fining his Premier Division Assistant Coach, Macadday (Andrew McLellan) $2 for posting a picture of his girlfriend on Facebook as they celebrated 2 years together (said to be batting about his average according to a source).
A classic example of those who live in glass houses, Theo not only missed a night out with the boys to celebrate his 5 month anniversary, he also told the lads that he couldn't join them for beers as he had a catch up with some other mates. What Theo forgot is his girlfriend is the sister of injured teammate (a fine there in itself) Matt Thomas, who reported the night in question was spent at the Thomas household where Theo and his girlfriend watched Pitch Perfect ahead of their weekly "date night" where Theo bought tickets for Pitch Perfect 2!
Pleaseee #2!
There is obviously a disturbing theme developing here involving player’s and their better halves. On Sunday night, Jake Ross (a recurring theme in itself) invited all the boys over for a few beers and to go out and stay the night at his joint as his girlfriend was away, but Danny has been reliably informed that he rung the boys at the last minute to cancel saying he is sick. Trouble is, that they found out the said girlfriend had come home early and he had taken her out to Opera Bar for cocktails. Smack!
Bulldogs hand in Hall of Fame
Most would know Austin Robertson Jnr was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame last week. Few would know that he was a former East Sydney Premiership coach. Robertson, who played Full Forward for South Melbourne in the VFL, took over the reins of the Bulldogs in 1976 and had instant success, guiding his side to a 13 goal victory over North Shore in the SFL GF.

Meeting of the Brains
Self proclaimed biggest hitter in AFL Sydney, Levi Brain was in hot water from his father (and senior coach, Leigh) after missing the team’s training on Saturday. Sources say, what caught Levi out was a check in at local bar Hugos. When asked to comment, Levi stated "15 tackles, 7 hardball gets a game and 4 premierships in seniors and 11 in juniors gets me a game anywhere, what more do you want?”
Emery bored down back?
Firstly shocking pun, I know! We close off with an interesting development emanating from the Senior Representative game on the weekend. He may have booted a number of goals with Broadbeach, North Shore and UNSW/ES over his time, but Kieran “Mr Efficiency” Emery shocked spectators when he was moved from the full-back position which he has made his own at the Eagles to full-forward late by Roger Moten with the game in the balance. The biggest cheer came when he took a mark 45 metres out on a 45 degree angle but unfortunately for those at the ground, he failed to make the distance from the set shot.
Word is Emery has been into Mick Sankey (Eagles coach) about a possible move forward during the week. However, given he has kicked 2 goals from 24 matches with the Eagles, in a side that is averaging 120 points/game in attack this year, Danny’s money is on Emery taking the kick-outs as opposed to kicks at goal for the remainder of 2015.
