A host of PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland products - past and present - helped Brisbane Roar to a unexpected 3-0 victory over Spanish giants Villareal last night at Suncorp Stadium.
2014 Young Roar midfielder Devante Clut delivered a brace in front of the 9000 strong crowd - scoring either side of half-time against one of Europe’s best teams to add to a first-half strike from Jean Carlos Solorzano.
Clut's fellow 2014 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland teammates Brandon Borello and Shannon Brady also saw game time, while current Young Roar stars Fraser Chalmers, Nicholas D’Agostino and Mitchell Hore also had the opportunity of mixing it with Villareal’s stable of senior and youth international representatives.
Amongst the players on show for Villareal were Spanish international Bruno, Mexico’s Jonathan Dos Santos and Giovani and Serbia’s Antonio Rukavina.
The Young Roar players complemented established Roar stars Thomas Broich, Shane Stefanutto, Jean Carlos Solorzano, Luke DeVere, Matt McKay and Luke Brattan.
The win signifies the first victory by a Hyundai A-League team over European club opposition in 2015.
The Roar will seek to repeat their performance against English powerhouse Liverpool FC at the same venue in another high-profile friendly in July.
