Flames, Wolves, Tigers, Magic streak clear (Week 12 Women's SBL Wrap)

THE Rockingham Flames, Joondalup Wolves, Willetton Tigers and Mandurah Magic have all now streaked clear on top of the women's SBL standings after Week 12 of the 2015 with little separating the four teams.

Those contests saw the Mandurah Magic women defeat the Soprano Designs Cockburn Cougars 71-41 at Wally Hagan Stadium and the Kalamunda Eastern Suns beat the Schweigen East Perth Eagles 85-62 at Ray Owen Sports Centre.

There were two women's matches on Saturday night with the Goodlife Homes Willetton Tigers beating the Perry Lakes Hawks 73-46 at Willetton Basketball Stadium and the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro Joondalup City Wolves defeating the Perth Redbacks 71-45 at Curtin Stadium.

There was just the one women's SBL match on Sunday and it was a thriller with the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers ending up narrowly prevailing 75-73 over the Stirling Senators at Eaton Recreation Centre.

The Week 12 results leave the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames (11-1) holding top spot on the women's SBL standings ahead of the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro Joondalup City Wolves (12-2), Goodlife Holmes Willetton Tigers (11-2) and Mandurah Magic (11-3).

The Kalamunda Eastern Suns (7-5), Perry Lakes Hawks (6-6), Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers (6-7) and Soprano Designs Cockburn Cougars (6-9) make up the rest of the positions in the top eight.

The Schweigen East Perth (3-10), Perth Redbacks (3-11), Stirling Senators (2-11) and Lakeside Lightning (1-12) are then fighting to find a way to remain in contention for a playoff berth in 2015.

Once again across the action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there were some outstanding individual performances leading into the All-Star Game on Monday.

On Friday night, Ashlee Sidebottom top-scored for the Magic with 21 points while Peyton Davis contributed 16 points and 13 rebounds while nailing 7-of-8 from the field.

Casey Mihovilovich also finished with 13 points, eight boards, three assists and two steals for the Magic while Shelley Boston contributed 10 points and four rebounds.

Taryn Priestly top-scored for the Cougars with 16 points in the absence of playing-coach Deanna Smith. Katie Loberg also added 11 points and eight rebounds for Cockburn but they didn’t get enough support.

Jessie Edwards led the way in the win for the Suns with 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots while shooting 5-of-10 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Madeleine Dennis contributed 14 points and seven boards off the bench as well while hitting 5-of-8 from the floor, and 3-of-4 from three-point territory.

Melissa Moyle added 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots for Kalamunda as well while Abbey Duinker had nine points, six rebounds and four assists, Rebecca Motroni nine points and four boards, and Natalia Soli'ai nine points and seven rebounds.

Kelsey Maffin led the way and did all she could for the Eagles finishing the night with 19 points on the back of shooting 8-of-16 from the field.

Dannielle Devenny also finished with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals for East Perth.

Then on Saturday night, Louella Tomlinson had a dominant night for the Tigers with 25 points, five rebounds, four steals, four blocked shots and two assists while shooting an outstanding 9-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Kate Malpass also did well for Willetton ending up with 20 points, six boards and five assists while shooting 8-of-14 from the floor.

Lisa Wallbutton pulled in 10 rebounds to go with four assists, three blocked shots and two steals off the bench as well for the Tigers while Zoe Harper collected eight boards, and Desiree Kelley five points and five rebounds.

Lauren Jeffers top-scored for the Hawks with 14 points and four assists while Danika Pisconeri contributed 11 points, five rebounds and two steals, and Sarah Donovan 10 points and seven boards.

Rebecca Mercer top-scored for the Wolves with 18 points and three assists while doing well from beyond the arc nailing 5-of-8.

Antonia Edmondson added 13 points and three assists as well for the Lady Wolfpack while Amy Kidner contributed 12 points and four rebounds, and Casey Lockwood nine points and eight boards. Ellyce Ironmonger also added six points and seven rebounds for Joondalup.

Jess Jakens ended up top-scoring for the Redbacks with 15 points and six rebounds while Meike Elkington contributed 12 points, six boards, two assists, two steals and a block.

And finally on Sunday, Deonica McCormick ended up top-scoring for the Slammers with 21 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and two blocked shots while shooting 10-of-14 from the floor, and 1-of-1 from three-point territory.

Patricia Bright ended up with 15 points, nine boards and three steals for South West as well while Rebecca Preston finished with 13 points, four boards and three steals with Kelly Bastow contributing 11 points and Kate Fielding four points, six assists, four rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.

Amber Land top-scored in the end for the Senators with 23 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and two steals while Walker contributed 22 points, 11 boards, three assists and two steals.

Lyndal Gardner added 11 points as well for Stirling while Bates contributed nine points and 10 rebounds.
