Ontario is such a better place when there's footy being played. A solid weekend of Awwsie Football across the province and here's a quick review of what happened. Phantom went 3/5 in tipping last week. Not bad.
Broadview Hawks vs Central Blues
After a heart stopper in the 2014 Grand Final this was a complete romp. The Hawks don't look to have missed a beat and have added some solid players in Northwind full-forward Matt Ryan and new Aussie Olli Stoltz. Phantom was correct in picking the return of power couple Rutledge and Nicholls but expected more from the Blues who registered just 4 points.
High Park Demons vs Hamilton Wildcats
Playing 16 a side in round one is never ideal but that's what this battle of the cellar dewellers was with High Park only having 17 on the team sheet. The Wildcats holding on for a good win. A clanger from Hendrix in the goal square may have cost the Dees in the end. Good to see strong numbers from Hamilton who have had a rough couple of seasons. Hang in their Dees, it can be turned around.
Grand River Gargoyles vs Etobicoke Kangaroos
Phanty was up in Guelph for this one and it was a solid hit out. The Roos copped a tongue lashing for not having an Instagram and they rectified the situation followed by recording a win. Good to see some new Aussie blood at Guelph and some new Canadian blood at the Roos but Cuzner and Harris (#2015Morgz) still carried the Roos and Dyer and Matthews carried the Gargs. No Neil Casey for Guelph?
Toronto Dingos vs Toronto Eagles
By all reports this was the game of the round with a 5 goal second quarter from the Dingos proving the different. Phantom favourite Wade Edwards slotted 6 and has jumped out to a handy lead in the goalkicking already. Word is the Eagles also looked much improved with new jumpers and new players but no Hanneberry or Pendlebury as predicted here.
Toronto Rebels vs Ottawa Swans
Phantom picked Swans by 44 and they got up by 48. Solid tipping Phanty Pants! The feedback from this one was that the Rebels looked a shaddow of last year and despite strong numbers and only kicked there first goal in the 3rd quarter. Swans apparently looked very similar to last year and had eight goalkickers.
There you go.. Great opening round of footy to start the season. Be sure to check back later today for my preview of round 2.
