The Round 6 Women's Rising Star nominee is Tayla Stahl-Smith.
A former Victorian U18 representative Netball player, Tayla Stahl Smith was looking for a new sport to challenge herself after moving to Sydney to join the army. Having been around AFL her whole life, but never actually playing the sport, she decided to give it a try late last year.
Tayla played five games of AFL in Division Two for Moorebank and was then selected to play in the NSW state squad. There she met some players from the Newtown Breakaways and decided to challenge herself further by playing Division One this year.
Tayla has thrived in Division One with the Breakaways, receiving the Player’s Player award on her debut for the club, being named in the top 6 best on ground in every game and being named Best on Ground scoring 3 of the 11 goals for the Breakaways against the Wolves. Tayla is a very quick and nimble player, often manoeuvring herself out of traffic and providing the link out of defence into the attacking 50.
The Breakaways are delighted to have Tayla on board this year. She is happy to be a part of the Breakaways ‘Family’ stating “I’m so glad I joined the Breakaways, I’m loving it and all the girls are so nice”.
The Breakaways are confident Tayla will play an integral role in their fight for a Grand Final victory this year!
